KEMLG - Grup d´Enginyeria del Coneixement i Aprenentatge Automàtic
Description:
The main goals of the group are the analysis, design, implementation and application of various artificial intelligence and hybrid techniques to support the operation and behavioural analysis of complex real-world systems and domains. Management, operation state diagnosis, prediction, supervision and control tasks are key problems for most organisations. For example, disease prognosis in the medical field, best donator tissue selection for transplants, wastewater treatment plant management, seismic and volcanic activity prediction, knowledge management and social structure management for organisations, and distributed multi-agent solutions for organisations are all difficult tasks that our group intends to tackle. Thus, our research is focused on the analysis, design, management and supervision of these domains, in areas such as health and medicine and environmental processes and systems, and in the industrial and enterprise sectors. This involves a research effort in the following directions: - Knowledge discovery, management and application to the design and implementation of what are known as Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS). - The design and implementation of data mining and Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) methods, using several techniques, such as hybrid methods in statistics and artificial intelligence, and machine learning (belief or Bayesian networks, case-based reasoning, knowledge-based systems, expert systems, supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, knowledge model identification and knowledge model building). - Knowledge acquisition and knowledge discovery from structural analysis, information flow process design, and norms and conventions emerging in open and distributed environments. - The development of new technologies for learning and reasoning in temporal domains. - The analysis, design and implementation of electronic institutions and multi-agent systems. This involves the analysis and development of intelligent agents, the understanding of coalition setting dynamics, social structure dynamics analysis in these systems using simulation and analytical models, and formal model construction for norms and conventions for e-commerce. - Directory service study by means of organisation theory and multi-agent systems, which involves research in knowledge representation, ontologies, social networks, the Semantic Web, and Web services. The techniques developed have been applied in the control and management of industrial and environmental processes (wastewater treatment plants). - The analysis of economic processes. - Knowledge discovery in the medical, health and pharmaceutical fields. - Web services and multi-agent systems applied to cultural heritage, education and tourism. - Multi-agent systems to support tissue transplantation.
